I have a friend in a carpool arrangement with another family. He usually handles their family's responsibility while the other family's responsibility is handled by the wife.
As time goes on, the innocent chatter, "How did Zoe do at preschool today?" turns a little suggestive, "Sid (my husband) is on the road, I finally have some time to myself. Wanna come in for a minute?" This goes on for several weeks and progresses very slowly but assuredly. Such as, "these jeans look ok on me?"
Here is the dilemma. Carpool husband and carpool wife do not really run in the same social circles. However, they have overlapping social circles and most of their friends know each other. The suggestion (if not invitation) is there for more intimacy. What does carpool husband do?

He should assess the risk and reward of his actions before making a decision. In so doing, he should assume the best and worst case scenarios. Worst case: wife catches you, you get divorced, all your friends and neighbors find out and talk about you behind your back, eventually your kids find out and they spend years resenting you or even worse they are subconsciously attracted to people that cheat on them because they know that their dad did it to their mom so it just "seems right". Best case scenario: you get to fuck another woman and glory hallelujah does it feel fucking great!! Just thinking about it makes me want to get up, walk out the front door of our house, across the lawn and into our neighbors house (without knocking) and fuck his wife. She is one annoying bitch but has great cans. I couldn't begin to have a conversation with her beyond, "will you go get me a wash cloth?" but she would be fun in the rack. The very best case scenario is that you not only get to fuck the desperate housewife but you also don't get caught. The probability of that happening is infinitesimally small. The reason being clear, women love to yack with other women and no way could this woman keep a secret this big. Also, how does it end? One of you is going to get tired of fucking the other and will have to call it off. If the other is not in complete agreement, call a lawyer and start looking for an apartment. Your friend is faced with a classic dilemma and one which I do not envy. He is forced to deny a primal male urge in order to comply with the rules of his own morality. The direct answer to the question, "what does carpool husband do?" is "nothing." Too much risk, not enough reward and a very high probability of getting caught. By the way, in the very unlikely event that the woman to whom we are referring is Kate Beckinsale, ignore all of the bullshit above and pull the trigger. Worry about the details later.
